Dr.
Dr. Giulia Raimondo is a Senior Researcher at the University of Fribourg, Chair for EU Law and Migration Law and Institute for European Law. Before joining the University of Fribourg, she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Luxembourg. Dr. Raimondo also consults for international organisations (including the European Parliament, UNICEF, and the ILO, as well as NGOs) on matters related to migrant and refugee rights.
She completed her PhD in International Law (summa cum laude) at the Geneva Graduate Institute. Supported by an SNF DocMobility Fellowship at the University of Oxford, her doctoral research investigated the international responsibility of the EU and its member states for human rights violations in the context of European integrated border management. Her thesis was recognised with the 2022 Swiss Association for International Law Prize and the 2023 Ladislas Mysyrowicz Prize for the best thesis in refugee studies. Dr. Raimondo’s first monograph, The European Integrated Border Management: Frontex, Human Rights, and International Responsibility, was published by Hart Publishing in 2024.
In addition to her PhD, Dr. Raimondo holds a Master of Laws from McGill University and a law degree from the Catholic University of Milan.
